Inspectors' Demeanor With Their Supervisors

Inspectors new and seasoned, what is your demeanor and approach when the Chief or the Client's Project Manager arrives onsite? Do you scatter like a covey of quail and act like you are doing something? If you do, please stop it. You have no idea how unprofessional that looks. Typically, both will come to you if they are needing any information or have a concern. If you are not busy, then you should greet them and see if they need anything from you. Time permitting and you have a good feel for the moment get acquainted without following them around like a puppy dog trying to talk to them. Most likely both will take a few minutes with you and see how things are going. Keep in mind this is not an opportunity to "kiss their backside." Nor is there ever an opportunity for that. Take the time to get acquainted especially if you have never worked with them before. Note, talking to these folks does not relieve you from your duties. If you see something that needs your attention, excuse yourself and attend to business. 9 times out of 10 both have already picked up on it and are expecting you to depart their company. Use common sense and stay professional.
